Preparedness Spring Cleaning

As we approach spring, this is a great time of year to assess your current preparedness situation. While this might feel overwhelming, I suggest you pick one component and work through that. It might be your vehicle preparedness, your emergency bug out bags, your home fire safety plan, or your EDC. I like to clean out my truck once in the spring and once in the fall to make sure that my gear is replenished and I've got the appropriate gear for the seasons. I keep a full bag of winter clothing in my truck during the winter that can be thinned out to a few essentials that I might need in an emergency. I still keep a beanie, one mid layer, and a coat in my truck year round, but I can lighten up on some of the other clothing items. Speaking of clothing items, one of my most used and favorite articles of clothing that I keep in my truck is a pair of muck boots. Anytime I'm around mud, snow, or shallow water they are great to work in and around.

Aside from that I go through some potential scenarios that could happen (car accidents, stranded vehicle, tire and battery problems with self-sufficient solutions, etc.). Once I've reviewed these scenarios I check my vehicle loadout to make sure I have the things I would need and the gear is in good condition. I replace what I need to (or put a plan in place to add it as time and budget allow.
